Part of the team that designed a 200,000m3 reservoir to provide potable drinking water to serve NEOMs proposed Line City and the surrounding catchment area. The project also had to accommodate a future addition of another 200,000m3 reservoir and chlorination process.
MEICA Design
Responsible for all mechanical and electrical aspects of the design relating to the reservoir and surrounding site.
Pipe sizing, site-wide hydraulic profiles, flood relief.
I chose a suitable site location for the reservoir to ensure that there was sufficient head to feed the gravity transmission pipeline. I also designed a drainage network to divert flood water from the site during heavy rainfall. I sized and sourced all pipework on site and liaised with senior CAD technicians on the pipe layout and culvert design.
Sizing, control philsophy.
I worked alongside the senior MEICA engineer to select the sensors to be used on site and develop a site wide control philosophy. I prepared specifications for all site wide security systems to conform to Saudi by-laws. I also prepared the proposal for the future chlorination system for the reservoir.
Internal tank layout, Flow analysis, 3D modelling.
I designed the internal layout of the baffle walls of the twin cell 200,000m3 reservoir. CFD analysis was also performed to ensure that no stagnation zones/ minimise sedimentation build-up within the tank. I also prepared the preliminary 3D models and renders for the reservoir site.
Site power, backup generators, renewable energy audit.
I selcted the transformer and designed backup solar array to be installed onsite. A battery storage system was also sized to be large enough to run the whole site for 5 days in case of power failure
Preparation of tender documents ,preliminary technical specificationsa and marketing images.
Prepared documentation for the project and inception, preliminary design stages. Produced preliminary renders of the storage tanks for client approval.
